Talking point: Vivid’s latest machine, the XV2, uses computer-vision machine learning to provide fruit growers with yield predictions and track the productivity of individual trees, CEO Jenny Lemieux told The Logic. Currently, it works on apple orchards, but the funds will allow Vivid to expand its capability to vineyard grapes and kiwi fruit, while making predictions earlier in the growing season. She said Vivid is building 35 systems this year; 23 have already been shipped to customers in Ontario and Nova Scotia, as well as Michigan, New York and Washington. “Our team is very aware that they cannot miss the beginning of the growing season, because there’s no going back,” she said.
