Talking point: Tesla has been looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint. In July, CEO Elon Musk said the company would give a long, “giant contract” to an environmentally sensitive, efficient nickel miner. That prompted questions about how the industry may be able to fill such a contract, noting recent accidents, and whether junior miners, including Giga Metals, would be able to produce enough clean nickel to meet EV-maker demand. Tesla also made headlines Friday as it reportedly plans to start shipping cars built at its factory in China to some European and Asian countries, as well as Australia and New Zealand, possibly starting as soon as the end of 2020. The Shanghai factory initially planned to only build cars to be sold across Greater China.
