Talking point: According to Bloomberg, both the number of mergers and acquisitions in Canada and the combined value of those transactions were up in 2018 compared to recent years, but equity financings were at their lowest in a decade. That’s because of fewer energy deals—the sector is in the middle of a significant downturn.
