Talking point: Chevron is the latest major oil and gas company to back Svante, which previously secured funding arrangements and partnerships with major oilsands heavyweights including Cenovus Energy and Suncor Energy. The Series E money marks a vote of confidence in the company, which has sought to prove out its carbon-capture technology as producers increasingly look to drive down their emissions. Svante has already installed its technology at Cenovus’s steam-driven Pikes Peak South project in Saskatchewan, where it was capturing 10,000 tonnes of CO2 per year as of mid-2021. It has also deployed its “solid sorbent” technology, which is designed to separate CO2 from nitrogen in flue gasses, at Chevron’s Kern River facility in California.
