The Quebec-headquartered firm said it’s calling off a deal with Carbon One New Energy Group. The Chinese company had agreed to acquire a 19.4 per cent stake in SRG for about $16.9 million. (The Logic) 

Talking point: SRG had previously said it would move its headquarters to the United Arab Emirates so the transaction wouldn’t be subject to a Canadian national security review. On Monday, Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne told The Globe and Mail that the federal government would ensure regulations were followed and warned companies against trying to circumvent tighter rules examining foreign investment in critical minerals. SRG’s shares fell about 5.5 per cent earlier Tuesday, before recovering and closing nearly four per cent higher. CEO Matthieu Bos said in a release the company remains “financially strong.”
