Kevin Edwards will lead the Winnipeg-based food-delivery company, replacing Chris Simair. Edwards joined the company in 2018 as chief marketing officer; he previously held the same role with the Movember Foundation. His appointment follows the abrupt departure of Peter Plumb, CEO of Just Eat, the U.K.-based parent company of SkipTheDishes. (Winnipeg Free Press)
Talking point: Plumb was reportedly forced out because investors were dissatisfied that Just Eat’s investment in developing its own courier service—based on SkipTheDishes’ technology—had slowed earnings growth. SkipTheDishes is playing a bigger global role in its parent company’s strategy with Just Eat having launched its subsidiary’s delivery model in Australia and now the U.K. Edwards takes over after a tough year for the company at home, however. In July 2018, a delivery driver filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, alleging that Skip wrongly classified them as private contractors rather than employees. Skip blocked the suit by changing the terms of its contract with drivers, barring them from joining any class action against it.
