Stronger spending over the annual holiday shopping event is good news for retailers, who have been experiencing uncertainty ahead of the holiday season. U.S. retail sales on Black Friday rose 2.5 per cent year over year excluding automotive, not adjusted for inflation, according to data from Mastercard. The payments company won’t release Canadian data until early December, said spokesperson Cory Fisher, but had predicted people in the country will spend 2.8 per cent more between November and Christmas Eve.
