The Ottawa-based e-commerce company reported nearly US$3.6 billion in revenue in the second quarter, up 34 per cent from the same period last year. Gross profit, free cash flow and gross merchandise volume—the amount of goods and services sold using Shopify’s tech—all grew more than 30 per cent. Shopify also projected revenue growth in the low-30-per-cent range for the third quarter. (The Logic)
Talking point: The results show AI is boosting Shopify’s business as it leans into agentic commerce, said president Harley Finkelstein on a conference call Wednesday. Traffic and orders from AI-powered search and shopping agents tripled year-over-year in the second quarter. The company has spent the past year integrating its services with tools from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and others. “Shopify is probably the most AI-pilled company in the world,” Finkelstein said on the call. Investors appeared encouraged by the results, sending the company’s share price up more than 16 per cent by midday Wednesday.
