Talking point: The move is a challenge to e-commerce giants Amazon and Walmart, which also offer affiliate-marketing services. Audrey Schomer, eMarketer senior analyst, said it makes sense for publishers to want to diversify away from Amazon. The program, which currently includes a handful of retailers, will also allow publishers to create stores that customers can buy from without leaving the publisher’s site. Netflix launched a Shopify-powered store earlier this month, but it is not a part of the new services. Shopify reported a record-breaking first-quarter with US$988.6 million in revenue in April.
