Talking point: Miller takes the helm of the FCAC as it expands its mandate to include oversight of open banking in Canada. The federal Liberals announced FCAC, which supervises federally regulated financial institutions with a focus on consumer rights, as the organization in charge of the file in their April budget. Open banking would require financial institutions to provide data on activity from chequing and savings accounts and other financial products in a secure, standardized format at a customer’s request. As a result, fintech services like budgeting apps and accounting software will become more reliable and secure.
