The deal with the Federation of Bus Carriers of Quebec will see the federal Crown corporation lend money to cover the difference in price between combustion-engine school buses and electric versions, and to install charging stations. (The Logic)

Talking point: The 4,000 buses expected to be financed by the new Quebec deal take the total to 5,331. That overshoots the infrastructure bank’s target of 4,000 zero-emission school and transit buses and undershoots the funding stream’s budget of $1.5 billion by nearly $250 million. The bank has already underwritten the up-front costs of electric school buses for one Quebec transportation company (which placed an order for 55 buses with Lion Electric on Thursday) and the provincial school-transportation authority in British Columbia, as well as for municipal buses in Ottawa, Edmonton and Brampton, Ont. The loans are to be paid off with operating savings from vehicles that are expected to be cheaper to power and maintain.
