Citing statistics from the province’s worker compensation board, Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) vice-president David Bergeron-Cyr said 79 of 800 Amazon workers at two of the company’s Montreal-area sorting stations suffered injuries in 2020 and 2021. (La Presse)
Talking point: The CSN, Quebec’s second-largest union federation, launched a unionization drive last spring, decrying worker conditions and subpar pay. It said the company has since put up anti-union posters and urged workers via text to reject unionization. “We respect our employees’ right to join or not to join a labour union without fear of reprisal, intimidation, or harassment,” Ryma Boussoufa, an Amazon spokesperson, said in an email to The Logic. “As a company, we don’t think unions are the best answer for our employees. Our focus remains on working directly with our team to continue making Amazon a great place to work.”
