Workers at the EV bus and truck maker filed an accreditation request with the province’s Tribunal administratif du travail to join the Association internationale des machinistes et des travailleurs et des travailleuses de l’aérospatiale union. The request covers workers in its Saint-Jérôme plant. (The Logic, Le Journal de Montréal)
Talking point: Last year’s historic United Autoworkers Strike in the U.S. is still fresh in workers’ minds as automakers try to tighten their belts to cope with fluctuating EV demand. Union representative Eric Gagné told Le Journal that recent layoffs have prompted more interest in the union. The request would affect between 200 and 250 workers, Le Journal reported. On the sidelines of a chamber of commerce meeting in Quebec City last week, CEO Marc Bédard told Le Journal that he didn’t want to guarantee against future layoffs since the company has to adjust to the market and is still waiting for slow-moving federal funding to come through.
