The partnership will let pharmacies that use Toronto-based Script Runner’s system for the logistics behind delivering medications quickly organize deliveries into “batches” of dozens of drop-offs in a row, the company said. The deal is with Uber Direct—part of Uber that serves retailers that need on-demand deliveries, like a mirror image of the consumer-oriented Uber Eats. (The Logic)
Talking point: Many pharmacies work with pen-and-paper files and have trouble even finding delivery people for medications, which can be delicate or legally restricted, said Script Runner founder Suresh Bhat: “They’ll find a way to get it to you, but it’s pretty archaic.” He told The Logic he founded the company after seeing how much time his pharmacist wife spent struggling with paperwork rather than serving patients. Script Runner also uses drones for some urban deliveries, and has experimented with long-distance drones in the northern Ontario city of Thunder Bay.
