Talking point: It marks the latest significant change Pornhub, owned by Montreal-founded MindGeek and one of the most popular porn sites in the world, has made in the face of increased scrutiny. Last week, the company banned uploads from unverified users, among other changes it said would improve transparency and safety. Despite the changes, the company has always disputed allegations its site contained non-consensual or underage content. Both Visa and Mastercard ceased supplying payment services to the site in the wake of the Times column. The changes seemingly apply to other MindGeek-owned sites like Redtube, which, like Pornhub, now lists the verified user under each uploaded video. Yet Pornhub’s recently updated terms of service still allows for uploading of content by “registered and unregistered” users.
