Talking point: Launched in April 2020 as a way to aid businesses faced with COVID-19 shutdowns, Le Panier Bleu (the blue basket) sought to compete with Amazon and reduce Quebec’s trade deficit, among other lofty goals. Yet despite $12 million from the Quebec government’s investment arm, along with $10 million from the likes of Desjardins, Fonds de solidarité FTQ and fintech firm Lightspeed, the site never took off.
