Talking point: The Canadian government has been the victim of cyberattacks before; in 2011, foreign attackers with IP addresses from China targeted Defence Research and Development Canada, which assists with the technology of the Canadian Armed Forces, and gained access to classified federal information. Ottawa has attempted to address its vulnerabilities internally, setting up a new specialized cybersecurity centre within the Communications Security Establishment.
