Talking point: Citing unnamed sources, several media outlets reported the deal would give federal political support for a new bitumen pipeline to the northwest coast of B.C., as well as a limited exemption to the ban on oil tankers from Vancouver Island to Alaska. Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson said Ottawa would bring clarity on the tanker ban soon. B.C. Premier David Eby said Carney should not have left his province out of the talks. There is currently no private-sector backer for such a pipeline, but Alberta plans to submit a proposal next year.
