Talking point: Barrenechea’s letter signalled the beginning of what he called “OpenText 3.0 – Information Reimagined.” The 1.0 version of the company focused on content management and the 2.0 version on information management, per Barrenechea. Its newest iteration will focus OpenText on serving its business customers the buzziest new technologies. It will also save the company money. Despite the new jobs the company will create in sales, professional services and engineering, the moves will cut annual expenses by $150 million, the letter said. It booked US$1.4 billion in revenues last quarter, up year-over-year from US$1.2 billion. The Canadian Press reported that OpenText had 24,100 total employees last June.
