Talking point: Public equities led the gains, returning 12.2 per cent, as OMERS invested $1 billion in Canadian public equities during the first half. Meanwhile, private equity posted the weakest return at 1.1 per cent. The pension fund increased its U.S. exposure by two percentage points since December last year, with roughly half of its assets now invested there and about a quarter in Canada. CEO Blake Hutcheson said OMERS is “committed to adding at least $10 billion in new investments in Canada to its portfolio over the next five years,” adding that the current environment in the country has “considerable potential.” The pension said it plans to increase domestic holdings across infrastructure, real estate, hotels and technology and that it has added more than $78 billion to its plan over the last decade.
