The company said Monday that multiple bottles with flammable liquid were found under a heavy machinery vehicle. The objects’ rudimentary triggering devices did not work, Northvolt North America CEO Paolo Cerruti said in a statement. Police said they removed the devices and are investigating. Talking point: It’s unclear who is responsible for the alleged act of vandalism. Northvolt’s planned electric-vehicle battery factory has faced pushback from groups who say the construction would damage the surrounding environment. Previously, the company reported finding spiked mats at the site and, in another incident, found nails or metal bars spiked into about 100 trees. A non-profit, Centre de valorisation du bois urbain, that helps Northvolt manage wood harvesting and tree replanting, said its offices were vandalized on Friday. Cerruti said the company is awaiting police approval before resuming construction, and welcomed civil discourse with the community.
