The club has expanded over the past year, in a province where few tech firms traditionally reach such high values. Investors and executives in the space say the influx of funding is a sign of a maturing ecosystem aided in part by federal and provincial immigration policies and a glut of capital during the pandemic. Also on Wednesday, Burnaby-based Clio, a legaltech firm and fellow unicorn, announced it bought San Francisco-based Mystacks for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is Clio’s second since raising US$110 million in April, and another sign of B.C.’s scaling tech sector.
