The centre is a collaboration between Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, which works under the direction of crown corporation Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.; electricity generator Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and fusion-energy development firm Stellarex Group. (The Logic)
Talking point: Atomic Energy will invest $33 million into research projects, while the province of Ontario will contribute $19.5 million through OPG. Stellarex, a Toronto- and Princeton, N.J.-based firm that spun out of Princeton University, will put forward $39 million. The centre will work to develop fusion energy capabilities and advance research and development in the field. The announcement builds on a June 2024 agreement between OPG and Stellarex to explore creating such a centre.
