SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Silicon Valley’s Sapphire led the round in the edtech company, with support from returning investors IVP, Salesforce Ventures, Framework Venture Partners, Bullpen Capital, Reach Capital, BDC Capital and Red House Education. (The Logic)
Talking point: The raise is significantly higher than the US$100 million the company fetched in its June 2021 Series C round. The increase reflects the near-doubling of the number of students using the platform, to nearly two million, in less than a year, thanks in large part to the pandemic. SoftBank Vision Fund 2’s investment comes less than a week after it led an $80-million Series C in Saskatoon-based 7shifts, as well as co-leading Montreal-based biotech company Ventus Therapeutics’ $140-million Series C round.
