The Stockholm-based company said that its head of legal engineering for North America, Daniel Himmel, will be based in the Toronto office. Paul Sanders, chief strategy and innovation officer at Halifax-based law firm and Legora client Stewart McKelvey, said in a press release that the expansion will “ensure the platform continues to evolve in line with the needs of Canadian legal teams.” (The Logic)
Talking point: Canada’s legal industry exemplifies the rapid adoption of AI sweeping the sector, Legora CEO Max Junestrand said in the release. Legora said the Toronto office is part of a long-term Canadian expansion plan to tap the country’s talent pool and collaborate more closely with clients. Legora, which sells itself as an operating system-style suite of artificial intelligence tools for lawyers, has grown rapidly over the past year, adding new offices and expanding its staff from 40 to 400. The Y Combinator-backed company bought Canadian AI startup Walter last month on the heels of raising a US$550-million Series D round at a US$5.5-billion valuation.
