Talking point: The company has raised nearly US$215 million since its inception in 2003 and has a valuation of US$1 billion, according to PitchBook data. The pandemic-spurred shift to at-home and freelance work has buoyed FreshBooks’ fortunes, according to CEO Don Epperson. The company says it has 500 employees and customers in more than 160 countries. FreshBooks is the latest in a string of made-in-Canada tech unicorns that includes Hopper, Trulioo, Clio, Dapper Labs, AbCellera and Tenstorrent.
