BDC’s $6-million investment comes from its Sustainability Venture Fund. Fonds FTQ, i4 Capital, Boreal Ventures, Quantacet, Hamamatsu Ventures, Eureka and Taiwan’s Cathay Venture participated in the round, which the Quebec City-based laser solutions firm will use to accelerate its international expansion. Talking point: Founded in 2016, Femtum manufactures laser systems used in the cleaning and correction phases of semiconductor and photonics production. Boreal, Hamamatsu, i4 and Eureka also participated in the company’s $5 million seed round in 2024. Last year, a consortium of semiconductor groups called for a national chip strategy in the interests of digital sovereignty.
