Talking point: Launched earlier this month, LawZero aims to build AI agents and systems that will stay under human control. Bengio has warned that tech firms advancing the technology are chasing profits at the expense of safety concerns. Ramadori, also an influential figure in the Montreal AI ecosystem, joins LawZero as it starts to add to its team of more than 15 researchers and raises funds from donors to increase its initial endowment of US$30 million. He was previously CEO of BrainBox AI, which makes AI tools to optimize building HVAC systems. Trane Technologies acquired the firm in December. Both Bengio and Ramadori previously backed the Liberal government’s proposed AI law, which failed to pass.
