Mow’s new startup JAN3, a reference to the date of Bitcoin’s genesis block, has raised US$21 million at a US$100-million valuation to help support Bitcoin infrastructure and initiatives to encourage nation-state Bitcoin adoption. (The Logic)

Talking point: Mow, who is Canadian, has been described as the “architect” of El Salvador’s proposed US$1-billion Bitcoin bond. He left Victoria-based Blockstream last month to focus on Bitcoin for nation states. Other announcements Mow made at the Bitcoin 2022 conference in Miami demonstrate he’s making some progress. The Portuguese archipelago of Madeira and Prospera, an island off the coast of Honduras, are eliminating taxes on the sale of Bitcoin, billed as making the cryptocurrency “de facto” legal tender. Meanwhile, El Salvador’s Bitcoin bond has been postponed and at the last minute President Nayib Bukele cancelled his planned appearance at the conference.
