Talking point: The companies said the project will be one of the largest installed end-to-end direct-air capture facilities in the world. Deep Sky was launched by two of online travel firm Hopper’s co-founders, Fred Lalonde and Joost Ouwerkerk, and WestCap’s Laurence Tosi last year. Its vision is to partner with direct-air and -ocean capture startups to build out their technology at a mass scale in Canada. It recently raised a $58-million Series A, including $25 million from Investissement Québec, to fund its work. It has announced partnerships with big names in the carbon-capture space, including Climeworks, Equatic, Mission Zero, Svante and Captura. It has faced criticism around provincial government support of its projects from Quebec City-based Utica Resources.
