The Montreal-based carbon-credit startup, launched by two of Hopper’s co-founders, will work with Climeworks on potential direct-air carbon capture and storage projects in Canada, with a goal of removing up to one million tons of carbon dioxide from the air. They would be Climeworks’s first such projects in Canada. (The Logic)
Talking point: Founded in 2022, Deep Sky has signed multiple partnerships, starting with California-based direct-ocean-capture startup Captura, as well as Svante, Mission Zero and Equatic. Last week, Deep Sky announced it raised a $58-million Series A from prominent investors including the Quebec government. On Tuesday, Quebec City-based Utica Resources lashed out over the province’s investment of $25 million, saying the funded Deep Sky projects will take place on properties owned by Utica that are the subject of ongoing litigation. Deep Sky had an introductory meeting with Utica this past summer, said spokesperson Louis-Martin Leclerc, a senior consultant with consulting firm TACT. However, he said, Deep Sky never planned to use Utica’s old wells for carbon dioxide injection.
