The Montreal-based company, which aims to develop technologies that draw carbon dioxide directly out of the atmosphere, said it was planning to build a facility in the province’s southwest that will bring an estimated $500 million in investment to the region. (The Logic)
Talking point: Projected to capture 500,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, the Manitoba plant’s capacity would be equal to that of Occidental Petroleum’s giant Stratos facility in Texas. The company plans to develop the facility in stages, with construction of the first 30,000 tonnes of capacity starting in 2026, but has yet to choose a site for the project. Deep Sky, led by Hopper co-founder Fred Lalonde, cited the Manitoba government’s passage of CO2 storage laws last year as part of its reason to locate the plant in the province.
