L.A.-based Genies, a technology company that allows celebrities to connect with their fans using personalized avatars, will launch a marketplace on Dapper’s Flow blockchain where those stars can create and sell digital wearable collections. (Forbes)
Talking point: The collaboration is Vancouver-based Dapper’s first major new partnership announcement since the runaway success of its crypto-collectible platform NBA Top Shot. The company is reportedly raising funds at a US$7.5-billion-plus valuation, just weeks after announcing a US$305-million raise. On Tuesday, Sega announced it’s teaming up with Japanese non-fungible token (NFT) issuer Doublejump.Tokyo to issue digital assets from the video game-maker’s intellectual property, which includes the character Sonic the Hedgehog, on Flow. Dapper now has some competition in the professional sports space, however, with physical trading card company Topps announcing an NFT platform in partnership with Major League Baseball earlier this month.
