Talking point: Like a chorus of mining executives, the Chamber said Canada is “missing a major opportunity” to lead the critical-minerals industry for electronics, solar panels and electric-vehicle companies. The business group, which counts mining giant Rio Tinto among its corporate sponsors and members, pushed the parties to address recommendations like government procurement contracts and coordinating reserves of minerals with the U.S. The Liberals have promised to double the exploration tax credits for critical minerals, while the Conservatives pledged to overhaul impact assessments and policies for lithium mining and uranium exports.
