The U.S. crypto giant had already established the organization—a joint effort with several other crypto companies—in the U.S. and U.K., and is now expanding it to Canada to “make sure crypto advocates’ voices are heard.” (The Logic)

Talking point: At a launch event in downtown Calgary on Friday, Coinbase Canada CEO Lucas Matheson and other industry representatives discussed the potential for blockchain and Web3 technology in Canada, particularly in Alberta. As my colleague Claire has reported, Alberta’s government has promoted the province as a hub for crypto-based technologies, and is actively working to attract them to the province. Alberta Innovation Minister Nate Glubish, who spoke at the event, said blockchain technology could be used to streamline transactions like land title sales, for example. He also touted Alberta’s potential to build numerous data centres requiring “dozens and dozens of gigawatts” of electricity to power AI and crypto mining activities.
