The sale is one of six orders for Cerebras’s CS-3 systems that the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based firm announced Monday. Enovum Data Centers is scheduled to bring the new compute infrastructure in Montreal online in July 2025. (The Logic)
Talking point: Cerebras makes chips specialized for training and running AI models. It’s one of a number of startups looking to meet the tech sector’s exploding need for compute hardware. While it’s headquartered in Silicon Valley, Cerebras has a large and growing team in Toronto. The Montreal site will be the first to use its chips in Canada; it’s already built three supercomputing clusters in the U.S. with investor G42. Enovum’s expanded facility joins a number of Canadian data centre projects from smaller operators. Bit Digital—a New York-based, publicly traded cryptocurrency miner—acquired Enovum in October for $62.8 million.
