Prime Minister Mark Carney says the committee will strategize on “all aspects of the Canada-U.S. economic relationship” as his government prepares for the joint review of the North American trade pact. (The Logic)
Talking point: Carney’s committee includes a few familiar faces from the one struck last year by then-prime minister Justin Trudeau, including former Quebec premier Jean Charest and Flavio Volpe, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association. He tapped several representatives from the mining and energy sectors, as well as industries hard hit by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Though tech has emerged as a source of potential trade friction, none of Carney’s new advisors is from Canada’s tech sector. The committee will also include politicians from other parties, like former Conservative party leader Erin O’Toole, former Conservative cabinet minister Lisa Raitt, and Bloc Québécois MP Luc Thériault.
