Talking point: U.S. tariffs will create some short-term “challenges,” Carney said in a video statement posted Tuesday, but called Canada “a country that prides itself on doing what is right, not what is easy.” It is not always up to Canadians. On Monday, Japan’s Sapporo Breweries said it will move some production from Canada to the U.S. next year, citing the new 50 per cent U.S. duties on beer from Canada. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump threatened to ban the sale of Bombardier aircraft unless they are built in the U.S. The Montreal-based aerospace firm responded by noting it has sites in nine states and Washington, D.C., and counts about 2,800 companies across 47 states in its supply chain. Bombardier shares hit a low of about eight per cent below the previous day’s close Tuesday morning before recovering some losses in the afternoon.
