Shell announced on Monday that a tanker carrying liquefied natural gas has departed from the LNG Canada export facility. As of Wednesday afternoon the GasLog Glasgow, an LNG vessel chartered by Shell, was expected to reach Incheon, South Korea, on July 20, according to VesselFinder. (The Logic)
Talking point: This is a major milestone for Canada’s nascent LNG sector, which has struggled for more than a decade to build critical export infrastructure. LNG Canada, which began development on the B.C. coast in 2020, is the first project to come online. The proposed Ksi Lisims, another export hub north of LNG Canada, received approval for its associated gas pipeline project last month. Shell expects LNG demand to rise 60 per cent by 2040, mostly due to economic growth in Asian countries. That has fed higher gas prices in Asia, which Canadian producers can now access directly for the first time.
