Talking point: The bilateral relationship took a hit last year after several Canadian politicians floated the idea of cutting Mexico out of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The new partnership will commit both leaders—and key cabinet members—to speaking more frequently, senior Canadian government officials said Wednesday in a media briefing given on the condition they not be named. Both the U.S. and Mexico launched formal consultations Wednesday as part of gearing up for next year’s USMCA review. An official said Ottawa is thinking about submitting its views to both.
