The financial services firm announced Wednesday that in this “key leadership role” Ahn will transition to become CFO in 2025, replacing Don MacFayden. “I look forward to bringing my experience to an organization that prioritizes innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and improving shareholder returns,” Ahn said in a press release. Talking point: Canaccord’s appointment of Ahn comes after she was terminated by Royal Bank of Canada in April for allegedly having an undisclosed personal relationship with colleague Ken Mason. Ahn subsequently sued RBC for nearly $50 million in August, claiming she was wrongfully terminated, according to a lawsuit filed in Ontario’s Superior Court. The bank’s public release of the internal investigation at the time “caused her devastating, worldwide reputational harm,” the lawsuit said. Canaccord has done an “immense amount” of diligence on Ahn, CEO Dan Daviau said in an interview with Bloomberg, adding that he doesn’t see her ongoing legal dispute with RBC affecting her new role.
