Talking point: Entropy gains new CO2 supplies through this acquisition, which it can turn into revenue thanks to its landmark $1.3-billion deal with the federal government. Under last year’s deal, Entropy, a subsidiary of Calgary oil and gas producer Advantage Energy, is guaranteed to receive at least $86.50 for every tonne of CO2 it successfully captures and stores. The first-of-its kind contract is part of the government’s efforts to make carbon-capture technology more financially viable. The three hubs will add to Entropy’s existing operations centred around the Glacier gas plant in western Alberta, where the firm expects to capture 160,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.
