The Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) said on Monday that Mphasis would use the money to attract up to 560 skilled workers and “expand Calgary’s talent pipeline.” Asked by The Logic for more details on the deal, Deana Haley, a vice-president at Calgary Economic Development, said she “can’t get into the specifics of the contract.” (The Logic)
Talking point: Haley also declined to confirm whether the $7 million would come specifically in the form of subsidies for Mphasis’s new hires. The IT firm plans to employ 1,000 people in Calgary, a decision Mphasis said is rooted in the ample skilled workers that the city has to offer. Infosys, a much larger Indian IT company, similarly announced plans to expand its Calgary workforce by 1,000 as part of a broader Canadian expansion. Mphasis did not immediately respond to The Logic’s request for details on the funding.
