Talking point: The new network will add to the nearly 36,000 fast charging ports currently available in the two countries. The stations will be open to all vehicles using either the Combined Charging System or Tesla’s North American Charging Standard. The plan comes as competition between the two charger formats mounts, after Ford announced in May that it will adopt the Tesla plug. Earlier this year, the private sector pledged to build 74,000 Level 2 chargers and almost 3,000 fast chargers in Canada by 2030, which will help the federal government reach a goal of about 95,000 slow chargers and 5,600 fast chargers by 2027, as my colleague Anita previously reported.
