The company now has one more warehouse and two more delivery stations—including one that handles extra-large items—in the country than it did in 2021, according to its annual economic impact report. (The Logic)

Talking point: Amazon now has 18 warehouses, six sortation centres, 39 delivery stations, three corporate offices, two tech hubs and one so-called AWS cloud region, meaning a cluster of data centres. Amazon anticipates opening a second cloud region in Calgary late next year or early 2024. It also has more than 600 pick-up points—a metric it did not report in 2021. Its Canadian headcount grew by roughly 1.3 per cent, from about 39,500 full- and part-time staff last year to more than 40,000 this year. Its tech hub staffing grew significantly, meaning it shed employees in other areas. Its Vancouver hub operations now employ more than 4,500 people, up from 3,500 in 2021, while Toronto totals more than 3,500, up from 2,000 the previous year. It appears Quebec lost about 900 Amazon jobs, while the count on the Prairies stayed roughly the same.
