Danielle Smith said at CERAWeek in Houston that she and Prime Minister Mark Carney are on track to meet all but one of the April 1 deadlines in their energy-and-climate pact. The outstanding item—a trilateral agreement on the Pathways carbon capture project—might “take a little bit longer,” Smith said. (The Logic)
Talking point: Smith said pledges related to the carbon pricing, methane reduction and environmental assessments have been met, or are a call or two away from getting sorted. Those were the lowest hanging fruit. Carney’s willingness to back a pipeline was contingent on the “construction of the world’s largest carbon capture, utilization and storage,” an industry-conceived project that has been stuck in the aspirational phase for years. “I would hope that we would be able to get that one wrapped up in the next few weeks,” Smith said. “We don’t want to delay very long. We know that we need to have certainty.”
