An agreement with a subsidiary of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, announced by provincial infrastructure minister Kinga Surma, is to hook up 15,000 homes and businesses in rural, remote and northern communities starting in June 2025. Ontario chose the U.S.-based provider over New Brunswick’s Xplore, the other finalist in the bidding. The initial plan was to connect 43,000 customers and to announce the winning bidder last summer.
