Talking point: The Japanese firm’s announcements come ahead of a key annual meeting on Wednesday where Toyota will need to prove its EV ambitions. Several institutional shareholders said they would vote to oust a number of Toyota directors, including chairman Akio Toyoda, citing governance issues and a lack of a deadline for its EV transition. Shares rose more than five per cent after its new product announcements. Toyota shipped nearly 10 million vehicles between January and November 2022, while EV maker Tesla shipped about 1.3 million last year.
