Dream Unlimited Corp. and Great Gulf Group—together known as Quayside Impact Limited Partnership—will build a 12-acre development in Toronto’s Quayside neighborhood. Plans include an all-electric, zero-carbon community with 800 affordable housing units and 3.5 acres of car-free green space. (The Logic)
Talking point: The agreement comes more than two-and-a-half years after the Google sister company Sidewalk Labs abandoned plans to build a high-tech development in the waterfront neighborhood. The partnership between Sidewalk and Waterfront Toronto crumbled amid persistent disagreements over the scope of the project (Sidewalk originally wanted to build on 190 acres) and intense backlash from community and privacy advocates over Sidewalk’s use of personal data and the company’s control of the approval and planning process. Sidewalk Labs has since wound down and its assets have been folded into Google.
