Talking point: Canada needs to increase its number of tradespeople such as electricians, welders and carpenters to carry out the scores of nation-building projects the government has in mind. Annette Mosman, Amsterdam-based asset manager APG Group CEO, told The Logic this week that Canada will need enough big projects—and a labour force to build them—to attract the $1 trillion in investments Ottawa is targeting. Ottawa will begin funding the pre-apprenticeship placements in early 2027. Its plan to incentivize more skilled trades workers also includes $5,000 bonuses for those who have completed an apprenticeship and earned a Red Seal trade certification since April 2025.
